Google Shopping Feed Optimization Starts With Knowing What’s Broken
Orphex covers the first and last step of Google Shopping feed optimization: the audit and the check after you fix. It reads Merchant Center and your ads to show what’s disapproved, what isn’t serving and what spends without selling. Your feed tool or Merchant Center makes the edit.
| Issue | Products | Spend at risk |
|---|---|---|
| Disapproved: missing GTIN | 38 | $1,940/mo |
| Price mismatch with landing page | 12 | $860/mo |
| Impressions but no clicks | 64 | $410/mo |
What Google Shopping Feed Optimization Covers, and Orphex’s Part
Google Shopping feed optimization means improving the product data you send to Merchant Center, such as titles, GTINs, categories, attributes and custom labels, so more products are approved, shown for the right searches and clicked. Most guides follow the same loop: audit, fix, regroup, measure, repeat. Orphex does the audit and the measurement.
- CoveredFinding disapproved and non-serving products

- Not coveredEditing titles, GTINs or attributes in the Google feed
Done in Merchant Center, your store platform or a feed tool.

Why a Product Isn’t Serving
Status and issues
Each product’s status next to a typed list of issues: Google’s error code, its severity, the product attribute at fault and the Help Center article that explains it.
Identity
Item ID, title and brand, as Google Ads sees them.
Price and availability
Price, availability and condition for every product the account can advertise.
Categories and feed label
The Google product category path, your own category path and the feed label.
Custom labels
All five custom labels, so you can see how products are grouped for bidding.
Products That Spend but Don’t Sell
An approved product can still waste money. Orphex puts spend, revenue and ROAS per product side by side across Google, Meta and TikTok, and reads Merchant Center’s own performance figures beside them.
Each product gets a label from where it sits on cost and revenue compared with the rest of your catalog: Star Performers, Hidden Potentials, Budget Burners or Ghost Products. Budget Burners are a good place to start feed work, because they cost money every day.
For example: a product with plenty of impressions and almost no clicks is a common sign of a weak title or image. That is a feed fix, and the product table shows you which items to start with.
| Product | Spend | Revenue | Status |
|---|---|---|---|
| Trail Runner 2 | $4,820 | $21,300 | Scale |
| Rain Jacket | $2,140 | $0 | No sales |
| Wool Socks 3-pack | $310 | $2,960 | Starved |
A Feed Optimization Loop That Ends With a Check
Audit in Orphex
List disapproved and non-serving products, plus Merchant Center’s diagnostics and recommendations for the account. Fix disapprovals and missing required attributes first.
Edit where the feed lives
Change titles, GTINs, categories or custom labels in Merchant Center, your store platform or your feed tool. Orphex doesn’t write titles, GTINs or prices to the Google feed. In the Orphex web app, Product Performance can write its product labels to Merchant Center custom labels, so you can group products by performance.
Regroup campaigns
Read the standard Shopping product group tree, and add or remove Performance Max listing group filters through previews you confirm in the Orphex MCP.
Measure
Compare impressions, clicks and conversions for the fixed products with the period before, and look at the product labels again.
What Orphex Reads and Changes Around Your Feed
Reading and changing are separate. In the MCP, changes run on the Free and Action plans once a workspace admin switches on assistant changes. This is the full picture for Shopping and catalogs.

Meta and TikTok Catalog Updates
Through the Orphex MCP, Orphex can change the Meta and TikTok catalog itself: add or update one product, update many in a batch, and create, edit or delete product sets. On Meta it can also delete a product. Each one is a preview you confirm.
These changes run through your Meta Ads and TikTok Ads connections. Before proposing, Orphex can run a check that changes nothing and tells you whether the platform would accept the update, and why not if it wouldn’t.

Check the Fix Worked
Once Google has reviewed the updated products, compare their impressions, clicks and conversions with the period before. Products that move from Budget Burners or Ghost Products to a better label are the clearest sign.
If you also changed the campaign’s budget or bid strategy, Impact Analysis estimates that change’s effect against a modelled baseline. It uses AI credits and shows the cap before it runs.

Frequently Asked Questions
Can Orphex edit my Google Shopping feed?
No. Orphex reads Merchant Center and Google Ads product data; over the MCP it changes nothing there. Feed edits are made in Merchant Center, your e-commerce platform or a feed management tool. The one exception: in the Orphex web app, Product Performance can write its product labels to Merchant Center custom labels.
How do I find out why a product is disapproved?
Orphex lists each product’s status with Google’s issue code, severity, the attribute at fault and a link to Google’s help article.
Does feed optimization help Performance Max?
Yes. Performance Max uses the same product data. Orphex shows Performance Max search terms and, through the Orphex MCP, lets you change which products a campaign covers through listing group filters, each as a preview you confirm.
What should I fix first?
Most guides agree: disapprovals and missing required attributes first, then products with impressions but no clicks, then titles and categories.
Can Orphex update Meta or TikTok catalogs?
Yes, through the Orphex MCP: single or batch product updates and product sets, each a preview you confirm. On Meta it can also delete products.
How do I know if feed optimization worked?
Compare product impressions, clicks and conversions before and after the change, and check whether the product’s label in Orphex improves.
